How do i tighten my rocker arms

Ok so i put my 350 back together but how do you know when the STOCK rocker arms are tight, or good and it can be fired. I know that you dont tighten them all the way, they have to be set or something like that but how do i do that. How do i know there not over tightened or not tightened all thw way? Diagrams will help, anything will actually

With the lifter on the base circle of the cam, set to zero lash + about 1/2 a turn preload for hydraulic lifters.

Re: How do i tighten my rocker arms

To ensure you are on the base circle of the cam for the valve you are adjusting rotate the engine until the other valve for the same cylinder you are adjusting has started to open a bit. You want to spin the pushrod for the rocker you are adjusting with your fingers. As you tighten the rocker (making sure it is backed off before you start) you will feel a slight change from totally loose to a bit of resistance when you are at zero lash.
Most people turn the nut another 1/2 turn tighter to set the correct preload.
If you search on this forum or through google you will get a better description and will save you from turning the engine over 16 times.
You are not really making them tight, just adjusting them so they are compressing the lifter pluger a small amount (preload) when the valve is closed.
Solid lifters are another story.

First, you commented on a thread that's been dead for a year.

Second, "stock ones" are hydraulic lifters and you are supposed to preload the valve lash 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn. So not only are you giving false info on a dead thread, your contradicting yourself at the same time.
