Re: v belt question
What auto tensioner? The 87 does not have one. Belts are tightened by moving the alt, AC, AIR pump and PS pump. Also, it's not just V belts the Alt uses a flat belt.
Re: v belt question
well if it helps i have no ac
and the alternators on the pass side
and right below that is the auto tensioner
like i said there is a flat belt going around the alt the crank and the cam

Re: v belt question
Below the alt is the air pump, I had the same setup (87 iroc-z L98) There is no tensioner on it, only on 88+. Like I said tension is set w/ the alt, air pump and P.st. pump.
I don't have the air pump on it but you can see the rest:

That's not an auto tensioner, that's your AIR pump, the belt is missing!!!
Twin_Turbo told you that you didn't have an auto tensioner!!
Did you check to see if the pulley on that AIR pump turns??
If you didn't remove the belt, maybe the PO of your car did, as it's probably siezed!!
By the way, I have the same set up for the past 23 years, so believe me when I say, it's not an auto tensioner!!
