What would you do?
I really hate to sell my car but im curious about what some of you guys would do..
My car runs good and shifts good, but the carb has a vacuum leak (positive its from the carb) and about a week ago something else happened. When i was cranking the car, i could hear and clashing of metal going together. I had to leave, so i just let it be. Little did i know that most of the teeth on the flywheel and starter would be missing later that day. Im not sure what happened exactly.
I rented a storage garage so i could do the t56 swap and try to find where the vacuum leak was coming from. Now that i had found where the vaccum leak was from and completed the tranmission swap, i took it to my apartment.
Now my car is out of comission unless i roll start it. I have no more money, and you will be evicted if you work on your car here. Its their "1 strike and your out" deal. I really dont know what to do. I need a car and all i can think of doing is just trading the car for some 90's model civic or something
My engine has over 8k of work into it, not counting the 6k the car has.. paint job, new suspension, great interior. Absolutely no problems with the car. Every problem ive had is with the engine. My friend built the engien and i got the car from him and did the rest.

It's called kickback.
If you want to run that much initial, then you'll need an ignition kill switch for starting. Otherwise you'll keep spitting out flywheels and/or starter gears. It will also burn out the contacts in your starter.

Re: What would you do?
IMHO it would be cheaper to fix the car than buy a different one and pay intrest on a loan. I would never trade a camaro in on a civic or any other foreign car ever. But then again im such a gear head that I would rather push my camaro down the road than drive anything else.

And im positive it wasnt the engine that was to hard to turn over. The engine turned over pretty easily so Im not running to much initial. But thanks for the input man. It was a quality flywheel and the starter was good. I guess it wasnt shimmed properly and the bendix wasnt alignnig properly. Or maybe a shim came off

Thanks for the replys friends!

Re: What would you do?
The owner allowed me to work on the car, just i couldnt leave any oil spills to get the company fined. She was nice and I cleaned it better than it looked when it was new, so she didnt mind. I moved out of my house with the wife, so i can no longer work on cars since i moved into the apartments. I had to find a way to work on my car so I found a storage lot. Hey gotta find a way to make it work!
