They make 305 stroker kits. Expensive and not as great as having a 350, but it will get you by without being noticed for having a swapped block.

Edelbrock also makes emissions legal headers.

Well what do you have? Are engine swaps legal in CA?

Also, for the V8's at least, Edelbrock TES headers are widely regarded as poop. Hooker makes emissions legal headers that are good.

No point in listing serious perf. parts for V6s, because if you're serious about performance, you're getting the V8. If you're serious about that, then swap in a LS9. 638 HP. If that's beyond your budget, you'll still get the best HP from some sort of LS swap. But if you insist on a traditional SBC, you can get there with a stroker LT1 with an Extrude-Honed Edelbrock intake, AFR 195cc "Cometition" port heads, a custom-ground cam, SLP 1.75" headers, and a ProCharger. That'll get you to 700 crankshaft HP. If you have the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

engine swaps are legal in CA but are hard expensive and in most cases the state will not allow the smog change they have to be at least 1 year newer and have all the computer emmisions and come from the same type of car i.e. car to car truck to truck no car to truck truck to car engine swaps. crate motors are illegal on smog cars and considerd "stollen" engines if you get caught on the street especialy v6 to v8 thay wouldnt probably even ref your car the only swaps ive herd of in that caliber is a ford 5.0 in the mazda rx7

Re: California Smog Legal Mods for v6 and v8

you can swap a v6 for a v8 in cali you just have to get the car smog check again to register it. I have a 89 2.8 v6. as far as bolt ons go here's the list of what I have...and it's all legal.

Acdelco rapid fire, Pacesetter headers, magnaflow high flow cat, dynomax exhaust, jet stage2 chip, 180deg thermo, jet 4th gear lock up delay module (700r4), msd cap and rotor.
that's what I have so far. next is msd 6al box and ignition coil, truleo intake, 19lb injectors, compcam timing set and a serious dyno tune.

Couldn't you just swap in a 383 and tell them it's the 305? I doubt they're gonna go hunting for casting numbers...

In fact, I can't think of a reason you couldn't do anything as long as it looks stock and passes smog
