possible heat soak?
possible heat soak?
i have an 83 z28 camaro. 305 with 4 bbl carb. was just rebuilt and i think im having heat soak problems maybe others. car usually starts fine in morning. one or twice it did what im about to explain. usually once its hot, when i turn the key, nothing. no click no turn. so i figured it was heat soak. i bought a new remanufactured starter, and it seemed to work better, but still had the problem time to time. just put on a heat wrap that wraps around the starter. still doing it. i also have a ford remote solenoid mounted next to my battery, but that didnt work either, so now its hooked back up to chevy solenoid on starter. when the ford solenoid was on i had it hooked up as followed. + bat cable going to side a of solenoid, and bat cable going from side b to starter batt. post. have the other wire that was on batt. post on side a of solenoid. s wire was put onto the s terminal of ford solenoid, and on chevy solenoid a jumper wire going from batt post to s terminal post. this only worked far about an hour. then when i turned key, ford solenoid clicked but no turning. what could it possibly be? to small of wires? bad connections? jumper wire to small? ignition problem?

Re: possible heat soak?
I had a REBUILT starter put into my 1991 Formula 350 and had the unit replaced twice within a couple of weeks because it would develop a DEAD SPOT after if ran for awhile. Let it sit for about an hour and it would start fine. I finally got a BRAND NEW starter installed at the same shop and have not had a single problem after that. Spend the money and get a quality BRAND NEW starter and see if that works for you.
