Excessive Fuel Consumption

Hi there I've got an 86 Trans Am 5.0L.. it's having a problem of using an insane amount of fuel.. last full tank only lasted about 160km. It definitely smells rich. I used a paperclip to pull the codes.. I came up with a 44, which corresponds to low voltage to the O2 sensor? I went to try and find it but my car doesn't seem to have one (?) the only thing similar is a sensor that looks like it's coming from the right (from the front) exhaust manifold, I can get at it from the engine bay but haven't taken it out. Additionally, the coolant and oil pressure gauges aren't working.. the oil pressure one sometimes reads a tiny bit but not much, and usually doesn't read anything. Could any of these things be the problem? If anyone can tell me some basic tests to run, that would be great.. thanks.

Re: Excessive Fuel Consumption

02 sensor would be on the drivers side exhaust manifold, there should be one wire coming out of it with a pig tail about 9inches away. replace it

DUDE!!!
You said..
Additionally, the Coolant and Oil gauges don't work.

That's no way to treat a Third Gen.

How do you know if it's low on Oil or Overheating ??

Sorry, but that's Driver Abuse

Bad You

Re: Excessive Fuel Consumption

I know this has not much to do with your post, but you should fix your car

Ok, maybe you need some new sensors
Maybe you could spend some money and get an Oil sensor from a parts store, or, preferably from GM. That may solve your bad Gauge issue.
Hopefully it's not bearings.
The Coolant issue may be very simple or complicated.
If I owned your car, I would make sure the coolant is full. Then I would source a new sender for the dash gauge...prefer from GM....and if that didn't fix it then I'd go to a garage as there are too many more things to tell you.

Re: Excessive Fuel Consumption

Johnny- ok thanks that's what I thought it was..

Greggz- I know I gotta get on those two things.. for the time being yeah I gotta check the oil and coolant each time I drive. Them not working is why I posted LoL and you didn't really give me any advice. Where do I get to those two sensors and how can I test them? Voltage? Or resistance?
