burning oil

Hey i have a 83 camaro that was an ex drag car. 350 bored and stroked to a 383. carborated.

the guy that sold it to me had nos hooked up and said he used it on the track. when i first got it it would spew white smoke out of the exhaust when i romped on it but since then it seems to have gotten worse.

people tell me i should just keep oil in it because my seals are going bad and theres not much i can do.

also since its gotten worse an electric choke was installed and it idles a bit higher. i dont think that has anything to do with it but i dnt know.

should i just keep checking the oil and adding it when needed?

When you check your oil what color is it? If it is milkey you have probably blown a head gasket. NOS is REALLY hard on an engine and seeing that the car has been drag raced the most likely cause of the use of oil is worn piston rings, but if the smoke is white you will probably find either a bad head or bad head gaskets. First thing I would do is check the spark plugs they can tell you allot. Good luck.

Re: burning oil

Oil smoke is normally blue in color water is white. Is it using oil or water after a drive? If N2O was used on this engine and wasn't exactly tuned correctly it is possible that the rings have lost there tension due to higher than normal cyl. temperature. On sb. chevy's this would effect cyl.s 3,5,4,6, your center cylinders, you will want to start with a compression test to see if you have any weak cyl.'s.
