its been a while
please: what is the procedure for timing cover install and then oil pan install on a pass side 350 block (older style) not our year...
I was planning on puttin the timing cover on, with some rtv on the bolts, not the gasket... trim the gasket at the bottom.
then put a dab of rtv on each of the 4 corners of the block mains and put the oil pan gasket on and then just torque te bolts ..
hoping for no leaks,. any other tips?

I didnt use RTV on the bolts. I just put a very thin film on the block and the cover and I used the gasket. I also use a dab on all 4 corners where the oil pan meets the timing chain cover and the adapter for the rear main.
BTW, a passenger side dipstick block is the newer 1 piece rear main block.

i have a 2 piece, it must have been a replacement block, it has both pass side and driver, but the driver port is blocked off. did u trim the bottom of the timing gasket? if i remember, it usually sticks out a touch.... also what do you mean "the adapter for the rear main"? i just remember doing all four corners... thanx

I didnt have to trim the timing chain cover gasket at all. Its possible though that some may be made a tad long and need trimmed to fit perfectly.
The adapter is on the 1 piece rear main blocks. Its what the seal actually goes into. I dont know its exact name.

have you already purchased the oil pan gasket? felpro makes an awesome 1 piece oil pan gasket that does away with the 4 part OE one. seals better, easier to install, but more pricey. otherwise, make sure you double check the size of the end (rubber) seals, since most replacement pan gasket sets come with 2 sizes. i like a bit of black RTV at the corners where the different pieces meet and on both sides of the gasket (especially if you have a cheaper stamped steel timing cover - always a hassle to keep completely dry cause they can warp)

yeah, i got the felpro 1 piece.... had one, liked it.. bought again.. i'll use some rtv on the corners, do you trim the gasket on the bottom of the timing cover? i seem to recall it usually sticks out a touch. thanks
