MAP Sensor & Voltage Regulator Location on an 88 Camaro
MAP Sensor & Voltage Regulator Location on an 88 Camaro
I have an '88 IROC Z-28 305TPI Camaro and I am getting the "Orange Light of Death" and the code says to check the MAP Sensor. I have not one clue where this guy is at, but I do have a replacement ready to go in. Where is this located?
Also, I have having a flickering problem in my lights so I have found in other threads that I may want to replace the Voltage Regulator. I also have that part, but I'm not too sure exactly where that is located either. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
O... and here is my Camaro.

Well, your car doesn't have a MAP sensor. The '88 TPI cars used a MAF sensor. It is located in the air intake between the air cleaner and throttle body.
The voltage regulator would be inside the alternator. Check for bad grounds and such first. Also, if the battery is getting on the weak side due to age, it is best to replace it ASAP. Otherwise it'll tend to pop a diode in the alternator.
Welcome aboard, and nice IROC. I've always through that the 2-stripe 16" wheels are the best looking that ever came factory on a 3rd gen.

Thanks RBob! I appreciate the insight! I have heard many conflicting stories about the MAP sensor and if it has one. After about 2 hours of searching myself, and another hour or so having others searching for it… I decided it didn’t have one either. I ended up getting a new MAF sensor and once I go through the engine and fix some other small stuff I’m going to reinstall the new one.
I ended up just buying a new alternator. I appreciate the information about that, I decided to take back the Voltage Regulator and just buy a new Alternator. I noticed that this one is pretty old (if not the original) so I’m sure she is due for one especially with the new stereo stuff that I have in there now.
Thanks again and yes... the 2 stripe gives it that 80's 3rd GEN feel. It’s been a great car and I can’t wait to really give her some special treatment. Luckily my soon to be wife understands my love for cars... (That and I think she is starting to get attached to it too, but don’t tell her I said that. I think it’s a secret love affair).

check your ground wires and battery cables. jiggle them around and see if you notice and change
