code 32 and car acts starved of fuel

i just got this car going about a month ago and am working out the demons. installed brand new plugs, wires, fuel pump.fuel filter, battery, distributor, coil, intake gaskets, exhaust gaskets, and the car ran great for about two weeks. now it bogs when you try to give it gas and code 32 pops up. i have let it sit a day and then try and it will be ok until its warmed up then bog when i hit the gas. 89 305 tpi w/200r4. dont have the money left to keep replacing things. i even took the fuel pump back out to check all the wires and lines and everything is fine.

Code 32 is EGR system failure. Check for broken EGR spring. Make sure EGR valve is connected to ported vacuum and not manifold vacuum. When problem occurs, check EGR valve. Is it open? Check spring tension, should be firm. Valve should snap shut solidly when released.

BTW, Im assuming you have a vacuum EGR with a vent type solenoid and ported vacuum control. This system is most common on 3rd gen V8 applications and can be identified by tracing the vacuum routing to the EGR valve. Digital or pulse width modulated EGR is quite different. Let me know if youre not sure what system you have.

Re: code 32 and car acts starved of fuel

i have a service manual but im having a hard time following it, from what i understand the egr opens to let exhaust gases out at operating temp, so that would create a negative back pressure thus resulting in the bog when the egr does not open? the runners prevent my fingers from getting close enough to check the spring to see if its open. if i pull the plenum off and remove the egr could i test the spring to see if it is stuck? and if it is stuck i would replace egr? and if not stuck that would indicate the egr solenoid as the problem? sorry, not used to working on fuel injected vehicles and i am easily discouraged when it comes to electrical gremlins. thanks,jj

checked fuel pressure and it is about 44 psi so i dont think its a fuel problem even though it acts like it

Re: code 32 and car acts starved of fuel

a friend recommended i hook the fuel pressure gauge up while drivng and when it started bogging i noticed the gauge would drop from 40psi to 0 if i hold the gas so i think it has to be a fuel problem. have new fuel pump and fuel filter so im not sure how to eliminate the fuel pressure regulator and the injectors.

Yeah. Didnt think of fuel supply, you just replaced pump and filter. Could the fuel filter be installed backwards? Seems silly but most fuel filters are one way flow. You might also check the hose from the pump to the tube at the sending unit. It may be kinked or damged. To check regulator you can close off return line and see if pressure stays up under acceration. If it still drops off, the problem is in the supply. The pump, line, or filter

fuel filter in right(theres a flow arrow indicating fuel path) and ive gone back into the tank thinking it could be something wrong with the hose but there is no rubber hose, just a slide type deal that slides up and down the line into the fuel pump
