Ignition upgrade on 305 4bbl Z28

Hi guys
I've recently ordered some new parts from the States for the Camaro. Most of which are ignition system overhaul: new plugs(ACCEL U-groove shorties), Taylor Pro leads, ACCEL distributor(top coil mount) and new rotor. The plugs I have now are Champion plugs and they are a bit sooted from the very short journeys that I do on the weekends and the 8mm Splitfire leads have a few splits in them.
The distributor has an ACCEL HEI coil pack fitted and I was wondering could I get away with incresing the electrode spark gap over stock to take advantage of the improved ignition voltage or should I stick to standard plug gaps?
Cheers

.045" gap should be fine. You can try more in .005" increments to see if it makes a difference.

Cheers fella-maybe the stock 0.45 gap would be fine if I'm running U-Grooves as they're supposed to give a bigger spark kernel.
