Re: new jersey

Wish I could help you. I was born in NJ and just last December sold my '87 w/2.8. Knew that engine inside and out.

ah you're too far away for me to help... maybe when I go to the shore I can stop by.

when the distributor was out, did you try and start the car? If not and the timing was previously set properly, you can put the distributor in the other way and it should be set... you probably have it 180 degrees backwards.

Re: new jersey

and also when i bought the car the distributor was loose. which means it was fooled with. i had a buddy come by and found top dead center and we put it in n it popped out the tail pipe so we 180'd it. so i know its in the right spot.. and i didnt try and start it with the distributor out.
