fuel pump question

i was just curious if the fuel pumps released in any of the firebirds or trans am was stock on the motor instead of in the tank. i've been told by many that they all came in the tank, mine is on the engine. i have an 87 trans am and was curious as to if it was a stock engine and this would be a quick answer. if there wasnt any produced with fuel pumps on the motor then yeah...its a new engine in the car.

Re: fuel pump question

Is it originally a carb engine? If so then yes it will have a mechanical fuel pump on the engine. I've also heard that some of the '86-up LG4's had small in tank pumps too for whatever reason (vapor lock?).

If you decode the VIN it will tell you what engine was originally in the car.
