power steering line question
i cracked the adjuster screw in my power steering box by accident.
i was going to replace the box with a spare i had in my basement.
in the process, while disconnecting the hard lines coming out of the box, i broke a line b/c it was siezed up.
questions:
1) does anyone know where these lines go on my car? does the power steering fluid get cooled?
2) where can i find new lines for my power steering box?
i have a:
1989 Firebird Formula, which was a stock 305 TPI from the factory

Re: power steering line question
nevermind guys, i found out that i do have somewhat of a cooler. basically my lines come out of the box, and run one big loop under the radiator. i don't know where to get a new loop from, since i broke the end of mine off, so now i'm just going straight from the power steering pump to the box....

Re: power steering line question
I was just in the parts store earlier this week getting a new pump and lines. I was leaning over the counter and checking out all the return lines and suprisely auto part stores carry the cooler loops under "power steering return line with cooler" $19 at my local store.

Re: power steering line question
Humm, I assumed all thirdgen cars were equipped with them.
EDIT: Curious, I did some searching, but I couldn't find a cooler line before 85 (and my 85 IROC has one).

Re: power steering line question
Not sure how much it actually cools. For my last pump I redid it. I bent the factory cooler lines so the output goes straight up near driver side radiator core. I then used PS return hose to put a B&M Cooler in front of the radiator on a seperate mount. I've read threads on here people say they boil the PS fluid so I figured another cooler might prevent that.
