Coil wire length....how long is too long

I've got msd super conductors and a Mallory ignition box and Mallory external non intake mounted coil. The box is down and getting sent in for repairs but while I'm at it I would lime to move both from the current location on the firewall to possibly inside with the box and to the inner fender with the coil. Moving the coil will require a lot longer coil wire. I'm thinking upwards of 4 to 4 1/2 feet depending on how I route the wire. Because of the low resistance wires (40-50 ohms per foot) would a coil wire this long still work without adverse effects?

It's a matter of opinion, Personally i dont like long coil wires, and my personal rule is no longer than 2ft. Will you have any power loss or adverse effects from going longer? I dont know, but you will get a different answer from everyone on this.

My coil wire on the outside of the firewall is about 2 feet long. It then goes through a passthrough connector to the coil mounted inside the car. A coil wire inside the car is about 1 foot long.

Re: Coil wire length....how long is too long

Seems like somewhere I read or heard that ideally the coil wire should be no longer then the longest plug wire.

I wonder what the real issue is when you get a wire that long? Is it a weak spark at the distributor cap, or maybe the potential for some stray RFI effecting both the wire and whatever may be near the coil wire?
