Dissy will not go back in

I have tried everything in the book. Turned the engine over, turn the engine by hand, tried to align the oil shaft with a screw driver. The only problem i see is that the oil shaft moves from side to side. Therefore the shaft itself never goes into the dissy therefore never allowing me to align the slots. What can i do? Can you pull the oil shaft out? this is on a 305 lb9

Re: Dissy will not go back in

Is this a stock oil pump drive shaft? If so, chances are the little collar that holds it to the oil pump input shaft is broken and not centering it up on the oil pump input shaft. Or your drive gear may have too much play in it.

Re: Dissy will not go back in

the drive gear on the dissy doesnt have any play. I have installed a new pickup coil, so thats the reason why the dissy got removed. I would have no idea if the oil pump/shaft is like stock or not. The engine is actually a rem. acdelco engine. I found the stamp on the block today. I know i cannot remove the oil shaft from the top. No magnets i have (5lbs) will pull it out. So what now? Remove oil pan?
