First time motor build combo questions
OK so this is the first motor i am building and i have a whole bunch of friggin questions. First thing is are V6 camaros motor mounts the same as the v8s? (very clean v6 for sale cheap near me) next, how true is it that stock internals can handle upwards of 500hp? i purchased a full block from someone he said it came from a 86 monte 350? i know its a 350 but idk if that is where it came from. i know its a four bolt. now the combo questions heres my list:
for my cam

lifters
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-97384/
rockers
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PRO-66915/
carb
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-0-6210/
timing gears
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PRO-66917C/
the components are mix matched for budget purposes as you can see i want a roller for the peace of mind benefit that roller motors have less friction and last longer
the carb was chosen because i have read that i shouldnt need more then 650cfm also i dont want to deal with vaccum issues
the heads are being purchased from another marine he build drag cars and offered me a set of assembled heads that have been benched and ported he said they are the best flowing iron heads hes personally seen
as you can see i need some help before i start purchasing and i know we have true thirdgen master minds on this forum

Re: First time motor build combo questions
It if's an 86 block it won't be machined for factory roller lifters, you'd have to use retro-rollers.
Holley's spreadbore carbs are stock-replacement dogs, you'd be better with a standard squarebore DP.
The noise from a gear drive gets old, a double-roller timing chain is a better choice.
Which heads are you getting, exactly?

Re: First time motor build combo questions
dont know exactly what heads i am finding out tomorrow..
yes i am aware of the block machining the lifters say in the description that they are a retrofit thats why i chose them
does it really? thats upsetting (timing gears)
wouldn't a dp carb be overkill for me?

Edelbrock 97384s are factory rollers, despite what Summit's description text says. They got it right if you click "Check Application", though. 97383 are retro-rollers. Edelbrock probably wouldn't be my first choice for valvetrain components, but I don't know who actually makes their lifters either.
A DP is fine as long as you don't try to use one too big for your application.
A timing chain is about a quarter to a third of the price of the gear set you listed, too.

Completely shooting in the dark. The motor is a big ? because there were not any 350's in Monte's after 1977 so who knows what that block really is. I think until you find out what it is, and what those heads are (I wouldnt trust "best flowing iron" for a second), you should wait and see before planning much else.

Re: First time motor build combo questions
Ditch the gear set and buy a good Cloyes timing chain set. I had a gear set in my race engine for one day before ripping them out and putting a chain back in.
The majority of my valve train components are Comp Cams. The only Edelbrock component on my engine is the intake.
That camshaft will probably need a bigger carb. For a 350 engine, a 750 CFM carb will do fine. If you want to stick with the tiny carb, pick a cam closer to stock performance.

Quadrajet secondaries aren't vacuum operated.
