bad fuel injector? loud popping sound...
bad fuel injector? loud popping sound...
My 1987 2.8l multiport camaro is having some problems. It starts and idles great. When i first drive it from a cold start, it runs fine. once the temperature hits the 100 mark, i start having issues. It accelerates very roughly, especially with light acceleration. I hear loud popping noises that are audible to anyone within a 500ft radius (kind of embarassing... nice looking camaro thats making this noise). I can feel a slip in my gas peddle at every pop. the problem gets worse in humid weather.
the wires and plugs are a couple of years old. the cap and rotor havent been changed in god knows how long (dont know why i didnt change them when i got the car). The coil is older too. I ran some fuel injection cleaner through the engine but to no avail. i sprayed some water at night on my wires and the coil wire at the coil showed some sparks, i tried a different wire there and the problem is the same.
Im thinking one of my fuel injectors is bad seeing that the sound seems to be coming from just one cylinder, but im not sure. I am a bit of a noob so i come to you guys for help.
What do you guys think the problem might be? what should i look into first? this is my daily driver and i dont have much money to put into it for troubleshooting. eventually i want to change most of the components i mentioned anyways but for now i can only do so much.

Re: bad fuel injector? loud popping sound...
You have to ohm them out across the coil. A good injector will be 12-16 ohms, less than that. You have to check them both hot and cold.
However, the problem you describe is not a failed fuel injector, but a clogged one.
If you want to send them in to me, I'll flow them for you, no charge. If they're good, we'll see what we want to do, if they're not we'll rebuild them for you.

Re: bad fuel injector? loud popping sound...
thanks for the reply. so it does sound like a fuel injector then?
what state do you operate from out of curiosity? I might consider sending them in but ive got a family friend that does work on our cars for dirt cheap normally. If it is clogged id prob just change it instead of cleaning it just because (actually, i would just like to change them all if i had the money even though i probably wouldnt have to).
one last question then, how bad is it for me to drive my car as it is? i use it to goto work about 10 minutes away and to goto college about 20 minutes away. I try to drive my parents vehicles when possible right now.
edit: im not suggesting that im not going to fix the problem and drive it the way it is haha. i have to wait until sat to get it fixed...

I wouldn't drive any car for extended periods of time that has any problem wether it be tire balance or bad injector.
What will happen is you will cause other problems.
Short term, do what you have to do to get to school, but plan on fixing this ASAP. Drive as little as possible.
