flames and fuel spitting from my 1406

like it says I got flames and fuel spitting from my 1406 on a 305
things I've done recently:
1. put fluid in my steering pump
2. changed my ignition wires for brand new ones
3. adjust idle

it was starting when I first put the wires in and now it won't start it's spitting out fuel from the carb and flames occasionaly

please help!!

I have a 1405 carb lying around should I just replace the 1406? or is it the wires? they're brand new. I just printed out the firing order so I'm going to check that also. many things It could be but it was fine a few days ago?

need help-!

You got your plug wires mixed up.

Firing order issue. It is wired up wrong, classic case of "cross wired"!

i would also check initial timing, if the timing is retarded too much, fire happens.

Re: flames and fuel spitting from my 1406

Don't blame the carb, it is 95% likely firing order. It's pretty easy to get the wires one post off on the distributor.

One other thing (and I only mention this because it happened to me) is it could be poor quality fuel... but then you would have noticed a decrease in performance over a couple days to the point where it wouldn't start.
