Noisy distributor

When I give my car some throttle it makes a scratchy type sound near the rear of the engine at first I thought maybe my ears were playing with me and the noise was coming from the water pump or something. I removed the belt and started the car and there were no noises in the front of the engine. The distributor is a little rusty so I'm thinking it could be coming from there. Does the Fuel pressure regulator make any kinda noise? I'm trying to sort out any odd noises coming from the engine and other than the lifters this is the last thing I have to sort out then it's gasket replacement time oh the joys of owning a third gen

Re: Noisy distributor

Can you define "scratchy" a little better? The FP regulator shouldn't make any noise for sure. As for the distributor, I have heard them kind of rattle a little, pull your cap and see if the rotor button is rubbing on the cap. Could it be an exhaust leak you are hearing?
