What Sensor is this?

Found this just hanging out in my engine compartment (just bought car trying to troubleshoot rough idle when cold). Car has an aftermarket aircleaner, headers, and MSD ignition box, not sure if thats why this is just sitting in here?

I couldnt fine it in my chiltons manual, and numbers on the item are ( I think) 23037229ac5v 0610.

Appreciate any help, Car is a 1990 Camaro RS, 5 speed.

Re: What Sensor is this?

The plug looks like the coolant temp sensor.

What color were the wires?

Re: What Sensor is this?

who ever had the car extended the wires for the sensor, so it was just laying up on one of the fenders all by it self, so I have no idea where it came from or is supposed to go, was just up in the engine compartment.

Please put your vehicle info and engine size in your profile. What engine size is it? My guess is it is the MAT sensor. Manifold Absolute Temperature sensor. If it is that, it goes into the bottom of the air cleaner. Do you have a service engine soon (SES) light on?

305 TBI. It has an aftermarket air cleaner on it which would make sense.

SES light was on, but it was a code 24- VSS so I reset it and it hasnt come back. Was hoping this would be my issue with rough idle when car is cold, so I started looking around and found this just hanging out.

Re: What Sensor is this?

Sure looks like an MAT(IAT) sensor from the plentum, some folks unplug the one in the plentum, extend the wires and put one in the air box or anywhere cool so the ecm sees colder numbers and adds more fuel as a "free mod" but there is no real proof of any gains. Its not good to try fooling the ecm.

I see now its tbi.. same deal just sctatch "plentum" insert "air cleaner"

Yep - it is the air cleaner temperature sensor.
