Speedometer Question

Speedometer Question

Hey guys, just to confirm, my 1987 Camaro v6 5-speed Sport Coupe has a mechanical speedo right?
Then, how easy is it to convert my mechanical speedometer, to an electric one?
I want to get all electric Autometer Phantom gauges and need any info on how to do so.

You'd need to put a VSS on it to drive the speedometer.

There's a cable driven speedo in the Phantom series, IIRC.

My speedo tends to "jump" around a little. I was thinking an electric one would be better?

So mine is mechanical?

Jumping is a sign of a speedo cable that needs lubrication or replacement.

There's a cable from the tail shaft of the trans to the back of the speedo. Help for the jumping can be found below:
