constant advance?
Hey this is my first post ad I've been searching for a while now, and I've found similar problems from others, but nothing exactly like mine. I got a 1988 firebird with the 305 tbi in it, and was told it needed timing, and it would only run if the timing was advanced to 2000 rpm(not good) well, i disconnected the advance and got my timing light on it and set it 6* btdc and it idled fine and sat around 700-1000 rpm, then i shut the car off and hooked the advance wire back up, when i restarted it it revved right back to 2000 rpm, i had to replace the whole throttle body because it was leaking gas from the injector plate so those sensors are good (worked fine on the previous car and it had no effect on the engine). I was told by a mechanic friend that i most likely have to change the ecm, but id like to find out any other options first. Think anyone can help?
also: I'm planning on trying the map sensor as I've got a surplus of good ones and figure it wouldn't hurt to replace it
EDIT: tried the map sensor, ran better, but still had a bit too much advance, so i figured it was due to using a map sensor from my old 350s and bought a new one, now the car wont run at all, every now and again it'll fire and surge for a few minutes and die, what did i do wrong?

Re: constant advance?
Okay i made a very embarrassing beginner mistake, I trusted the fuel gauge, seems the cars outta gas so i have no clue if the map sensor worked or not, if I'm still having problems after putting gas in it I'll be back
