305 tbi...wont idle with the brown timing wire hooked up

I just replaced my distributor in a 305 tbi 1992 and now it dosnt want to idle let alone stay started even with the gas pedal pushed. It runs great for a while when the brown timing wire is unhooked. Need help if anyone has heard of somthing like this happend. I think it was doing this before I replaced the distributor. I replaced the dizzy because it had no fuel pulse but I have that now.

sounds like you may not have put it back in the right timing? where are you timing-wise when the wire is disconnected?

on the zero mark..of the crank timing scale....when I connect it it jumps around....I drove it out of my shop this morning but its setting in the shops yard drive way because it wont stay started enough to drive back down to the shop....I tested the tps it has very very low readings compared to the spec the book says it should have..same with the map sensor. I double checked the distributor install today when I have crank mark on zero bug is pointing at number one wire and piston is all the way up.

I believe your timing should be at 6 degrees Before TDC with the wire disconnected

It's supposed to jump around when the brown wire (timing advance) is hooked up. Don't worry about that.

Check your rotor... if it has hit the inside of the cap and the little contact tip thing is bent off to the side, it will not run when significant advance is called for.
