head bolt question
just did a head gasket replacement on my 1985 trans am 305. it still smokes from the tailpipe a little white smoke the whole time is iddleing.. im not sure if it coolant but if it is. can i just try and torqe the head bolts to 80 instead of 65? would that hurt the head or the bolts?

No, DO NOT over-torque them. That will make the gaskets blow, guaranteed. Go look at the valve covers: imagine what will happen to that gasket if you over-torque those. The EXACT SAME THING happens to head gaskets, except intead of bending enough to see, it only takes a couple of .001"s to screw it up.
Drive the car. JThen take another look. Just sitting idling isn't a good test. Most likely, what you're seeing now, is just the steam that's one of the combustion by-products, and not "smoke" at all.

or if it is using coolant i would check intake gasket before taking heads off again. I would top off coolant drive it a bit and check coolant again and oil to see if its mixing at all.
