I'm selling my car and the buyer wants to know (and so do I) what this tube/opening is. It's right in the center of the picture. When the car is running this tube is sucking air. Now, the car has had a new air filter put on, not the stock one. We are guessing this connected to the stock filter, but not sure. So, if anyone could tell me what this is and the purpose/function of it and if it is a problem leaving it the way it is it would be greatly appreciated!

You're sure it's sucking air? Does the one on the drivers side do it too?

 

Yeah, there is suction. I didn't even see another one on the driver's side, hmmmm. I know the previous owner replaced the air compressor system, maybe that has something do with it?

 

It's going to let extra air into your exhaust. On the passenger side it's not too much of a problem, but the O2 sensor is on the driver side.

It can be fixed easily enough by taking the injector tubing out and plugging the holes in the manifolds.

Looks like that is actually the tube that goes to the catalytic converter. Same purpose. The AIR system would have three, one going to each exhaust manifold and one to the cat. It might can be capped at the end shown with a rubber cap and hose clamp or the pipe nearer the cat can be cut and crimped shut. If the cat has been replaced at some time this line may have already been cut and reconnected to the new cat.
