Another starting issue thread. Yay.

Car is a 90 GTA. I've already replace the battery, starter assembly, fuel pump relay, start enable relay, and neutral safety switch.

The car will start.... Sometimes. I have to let it sit for a while after I turn it off (about an hour). When it doesn't start it acts just like it does when you put it in Drive and start it, which is why I replaced the NSS and start enable relay. There's no clicking or noises what so ever and the only indication that I'm Turing the key is the coolant temp. Shoots all the way up, and then goes back down when I stop turning it. All the accessories still work. The last thing I can think of to replace is the ignition switch.

Any thoughts? Is there something else that's tied into the electrical system that I'm missing? I'm stranded at a best buy right now so any help is appreciated.

Anyone? I can hear the fuel pump prime when I turn the key so I know it's not that. Maybe the ignition modual?

It's not your VATS system, is it?

Re: Another starting issue thread. Yay.

Have you replaced the starter? I had the same problem with my car. I would drive it, then park and when I came back out the car wouldnt start unless I let it sit for anywhere from 20 to 90 minutes. The temp gauge would peg while trying to start and all i would get was a click.I tried everything disabled vats, replaced distributor, ignition control module, neutral safety switch, battery cable, relay, and even heat wrapped the starter. When I was replacing the starter I found the problem. the plastic part of the soleniod had cracked making it very suceptible to heat. The starter I put in was a reman from autozone and I havent had any trouble since. Knock on wood

It shouldn't be vats cause I've already bypassed it and I checked all my connections and they're still good. I replaced the starter just recently with one from
advance so unless it's cracked after I put it in... I'll try putting some
ice on it or something just in case.

Re: Another starting issue thread. Yay.

So I ended up having to leave the car overnight at best buy. Came back the next day and she started right up. I drove it home and just for kicks I turned it off, waited five minutes and turned it on again, and once again it started. The idea that maybe something is getting to hot though is interesting. I don't think it's the starter though because I know the 'click' that you're talking about and it's not doing that. I usually just search the forums for a while when I have a problem but I couldn't find anything spefic to this one...

Mine has been doing the same thing lately, only it seems to randomly do it. I could walk up to it for a cold start and it won't work. Other times the key has been in the ignition for a few hours and needs to be taken out. Has happened about 3 times in the last month, but it only takes about 10 minutes to recover.
