Need help fixing fuel pump disaster.

Well I got my new 383 in and almost ready to run. As I was working on the fuel lines I found quite a mess done by the previous owner. (one of many such disasters I have had to fix) Of course he cut an access above the fuel pump, but was kind enough to have straight cuts so it wont be too bad to fix. My main problem is with the pump itself. The P.O. cut the four lines coming out the top of the sending unit, attached the feed line with a piece of rubber fuel line, and soldered the other three closed. Doesn't the third gen's tank require a vent line? The car had no gas cap on it when I got it, and I figure it was his way of venting the tank. Should I try to cut off the solder and reattach the vent line or am I better off finding a sending unit out of a carbed thirdgen and replacing the whole thing? And if I fix it, which line is the vent? Thanks for your help!
