Which fuel pump? Please help!
I have a 1987 Trans Am with a 4bbl 305 and automatic. I read that the carb cars have a fuel pump on the block, which I do. But I also have an electric pump in the tank which I thought only the fuel injected cars had. Any info?

Is that the stock carb setup? Maybe it was fuel injected and someone put the carb and mechanical fuel pump on it and bypassed the electric pump. Just an idea.

Yeah its the stock carb setup and the vin verifies. The electric pump is not bypassed as it runs when started but the pump on the block is the one that is being used. Its strange and I need to figure it out.

Re: Which fuel pump? Please help!
1986 and 1987 cars (I believe just those two) had "helper" electric pumps in the tank to pump fuel up to the mechanical pump on the block. Thus 2 pumps.
Many cars had 2 pumps in that era - my 1987 Ford Bronco II has 2 pumps, but they are both electric as it is a FI engine.
