GM OBD 1 Scanner

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a reasonably priced digital OBD I scanner for the 3rd gen Camaros. I've found a few of the cheap "count the blinking light" type scanners on line but the only digital ones I've seen are the OBD I/II combo scanners that are very expensive.

You could use a paper clip and do it for free.

Yes, I read about that method. Just wondering if there was a cheap digital scanner that would store the codes and run a ECM self test a an a few other simple systems checks similar to the one I have for my old Ford.

Re: GM OBD 1 Scanner

Not sure that any cheap scanner is going to hold the codes.
Most probably be looking at a couple hundred bucks.
I went a simpler route by buying a cheap older laptop from ebay and making a cable which is really easy. Total was around $60. Also bought an ELM obd2 scanner and now I can read any car.
Sadly it does not do abs codes but the laptop stores any codes I want it to.
My tuppence.
Good luck.

Re: GM OBD 1 Scanner

DIY Prom board offers more insight on PC based data logging.

In a nutshell

Buy the ALDU1 from Moates.net or ALDLCable.com sells an all in one cable.

Download software like TunerPro, WinALDL, Datamaster, etc etc. Many totally free packages are available, some with modest licenses fees, and a few with really high fees.

Plug Cable into car and into Laptop

Read data.

Re: GM OBD 1 Scanner

Just use a paperclip or go to Autozone & ask for one of their OBD 1 keys. They gave me one years ago.
