how do i install 1.6 roller rockers on 083 heads?
Some people told me that i have to pull the heads all the way off and have a machine shop install them because they are the 083 cast iron, but other people told me i can just buy the self aligning roller rockers and all i would have to do is remove the valve cover to install. will the self aligning 1.6 stainless steel roller rocker go right on without removing the heads or having machine work done?

Yes, self aligning 1.6 rockers will install with no issues. I ran the 1.6 rockers on my L98 when I had all the bolt ons. They are easy to install and only take a few hours to install really. Just need to set the valve lash and I found that easier to do when you take out the spark plugs and disconnect the fan belt and put a socket on the crank pulley bolts to rotate the engine.
Else you can have someone bump the ignition/starter and watch for the valves to open/close and try to adjust that way, but its more accurate to turn motor by hand, and its easier to turn when there are no plugs and belts on the motor holding it back.

I think someone might have suggested machine work meaning the holes for the pushrods need to be elongated. Once you move the position of the pushrod which 1.6's do they can hit the casting and bind. Some go in and have just enough clearance and others hit due to these being casted holes where there is no quality control on its size.

I would say if there is to be any problem it would be the small pushrod holes binding against the pushrods.
