Hello,
I have been having an ongoing problem with my 86 IROC TPI. For the past couple of weeks fuel has been leaking from the Evap Canister at a pretty steady stream. This is amplified by WOT runs with the car. Gas just pours out. When i remove the gas cap you can hear the tank decompressing; there is a lot of built up pressure. I removed the saturated Evap canister today and ran the car with the gas cap tight and the return line open. If you didn't know any better you would think the return line is a high pressure fuel line as it sprays liquid fuel all over when the car is running. What the heck is causing this?

The return and vent lines are swapped at the gas tank. IOW, the return line to the tank is connected to the vent line going into the tank. And the canister vent line is connected to the return line into the tank.Originally Posted by Danspeed1

Note that the return line is from the FPR. The line going to the canister is the vent line.

If you have had any work done on the fuel pump and the tank has been dropped to replace the fuel pump it sounds like someone hooked the lines up incorrectly. (return line and canister vent lines are swapped) Lines are located at the fuel tank. switch them back to where they belong.
