what is this
all right today i was working on striping my engine bay to shave random holes and do my wire tuck/relocation when i removed my steering column and brake booster i found one really odd frame rail after 3 seconds i realized it was cracked and there was some kind of random piece of mettle bolted to it that appears to have caused this the
what is this bracket for it looks like some one was pounding on it at one time or cut it with oxyacetylene but nothing on the clutch or brakes was attached to this thing to put stress on it so now all i want to know is what the hell is this and why did this crack happen so after i weld it up it dont happen again

i will weld up the crack in the morning but this bracket has me stumped what to do with , i am not even sure it really is part of my car or just some random thing a previous owner thought would be cool to put in there

Re: what is this
well... there was two holes drilled and tapped, but i had no bracket.
i might have removed it a while ago, but i dont remember that specificly. ive removed alot of stuff that ive deemed unnecessary.

Re: what is this
Looks like it used to be a clutch pivot ball bracket, especially since you can also see the remains of the old pedal push-rod (about half worn through) just kinda chillin right above it.
Just one more reason I HATE that old Neanderthal linkage crap.
Yeah your "frame" is smoked pretty hard right there... DEFINITELY fix that.

I agree with Sofakingdom. That would be the OE clucth assembly. I assume yours has been upgraded to hydraulic. Now that you have things apart, you can remove the push rod and be rid of this old junk.

Kind of hard to have one clutch pedal in the car with a linkage rod attached, and another with a hyd MC attached.
And, the hyd MC would install in the hole in the firewall where the clutch rod goes through. Exact same location, the hole just has to be enlarged about ¼" down and to one side. I'll let you figure out how I know that.
