Re: Help. Rag joint removal

Pull the whole shaft, from the bottom of the column to the gear; drill the rivets.

tight space

It's kind of right out in the open. All that's in the way, is that block heater (or whatever it is) cord.

IIRC it's about a 16mm nut. A ratchet, extension, and socket work fine.

Haha it looks much easier in the pic. The bolt is on the drivers side of the shaft. The other end is round

The circled part is the round end i was talking about

Re: Help. Rag joint removal

I have my car up on ramps instead of jack stands. What if I were to put it on stands and turn the wheel so the bolt is facing upward?

am I going to encounter problems when reinstalling. What if i took the bolt off and then turn the wheel straight again and then take the shaft out?

turn the wheel so the bolt is facing upward
I knew you could figure it out!!

Although, it'll be the nut you'll want facing up. The bolt is just a round head, no drive, with a square shank fitting through a square hole in the shafts.

No need to worry about turning anything. Just slide it apart, pull out the shaft, leave the column and gear alone, replace the joint, and put it back in. It only goes one way on the gearbox.
