transmission swap

Recently my automatic transmission went bad in my 1986 z28 i got a used transmission out of a 1986 firebird also with a new torque converter it drives fine but takes longer to switch gears, it doesnt change gears untill about 4000-4500 rpms opposed to the 2500-3000rpms it did before is this a problem and what could it be?
