My 91 Z28 Project....Need help...
Ok, so I'm really new to this learning a lot but now kind of at a stand still and need some help. So I'll give you the back story and then we'll go from there.
I recently bought one of my dream cars. I bought it in "project car" shape because I wanted to learn more about cars in general.
Vital stats:
1991 Z28 LB9 305 5spd
Black paint that's trashed
MSD ignition, MSD distributor and wires, hypertech chip, Looks like a remanufactured ECM.
Was sitting around for around 4yrs best I can tell from paperwork and what the guy I bought it from told me. Took it to a shop for diagnostics, they scared the **** out of me with how much they said was wrong with the car. I have now replaced the injectors, fuel filter, thermostat and housing. new gaskets, oil and filter, cleaned the K&N air filter, flushed the radiator.
NOW its up and running but seems a bit sluggish. seems like the RPM's aren't really telling the true story of what's going on. When the RPMS are almost at redline it doesn't seem like the engine is really working all that hard. It's not screaming and it doesn't feel tight at all. RPM's go up quickly with a VERY slow reaction in speed. I put it on the floor today and it seemed to miss a couple times.
Now this is the first tank of gas with fuel treatment i've run through the car and have thought it might just be the fuel. I am interested to run some Chevron through it and go through another tank, which reminds me fuel consumption seems to be WAY up.
Any thoughts before I just randomly start replacing Sensors would be much appreciated. Also if anyone can really tell me in plain english what all the MSD and hypertech chips do and what they will do on this particular engine that too would be great. Thanks guys for helping the new guy!
