Rotor wont come off shaft what am I missing

I just got this car. 1988 Iroc L98. I have done tune-ups before but never had this much trouble . The rotor will not come off the shaft. The cap and rotor are in really bad shape. I have pulled up on it. Put some pressure on it by turning it back and forth but it wont move. What am I missing or do I need to put on more pressure. I don't want to break anything. I love this board. I have already fixed my blower it now has all three speeds .

Sometimes they are so tight you have to break it to remove it.

Are we talking brakes? Rears will rust solid onto the axles. Some wd40 or pb blaster might break it loose. I use a ballpeen hammer to the edges all the way around and to the back sides just don't start smacking it really hard you can bend the flange.

Oh nm see where you said cap.

Got it . I had to put more upward pressure and it popped right off .
I was just worried about to much pressure.

I had to break mine to get it off and when I realized my distributor was bad after already putting a new one on I had to break that one too

Re: Rotor wont come off shaft what am I missing

Happens all the time with that style of dist... no big deal, just destroy it and put on a new one. Put a little dielectric grease inside it to keep it from sticking so bad next time.

Re: Rotor wont come off shaft what am I missing

On the original rotor that was in my car, I had to climb on top of the engine bent over the distributor and using both hands, pull like hell to pop that sucker off. I think I cursed at it too, that always seems to help. Glad you got yours off, they can be a bitch if they've been on a long time or are just on too tight.
