hey! my shifter wont lock into any gear. it's stuck in drive. the shifter just kind of flops through the gears, without locking in any, or changing gear out of drive. where are the connections to tell if something came undone?? please help, need this car going today!

 

Replace the shifter cable.

 

found the problem... the bracket that holds the shift linkage (from tranny pan) has a disconnection between a rubber grommet and the plastic bit that goes into the metal bracket. does this grommet just slide into the plastic bit? i tried pushing it in and i just cant get it to stick.

any help?

It's broken, you need a new one.

 

Yep - that's a broken shifter cable.

 

replaced it, it's all taken care of. the new one is kinda 'tight' and takes some more pressure to shift, but i guess that's better than it being stuck in OD. thanks fellers!
