1988 stock 2.8L v6 camaro overhaul

I have a completely stock 2.8 v6 1988 camaro. This engine by default is almost powerless but is amazingly reliable I would like some guidelines on how to pull some more power out of this little thing. Anybody that has done this willing to help me out?
