5.7l v8 350, spits smoke a bit on startup and higher rpms, doesnt burn oil too fast tho, got a compression test done, was told i was running 125 all around except cylinders 3 and 5 which were reading only 25....was told basically, that the rings and bearings were gone, and i was looking at a rebuild, or throwing a crate engine in. All at around 3-4k for all the work...not sure if i trust the shop, so does anybody have any ideas?

Re: some results back, have some questions
Blown head gasket between those 2 cyls...
Not likely to be rings, and impossible for bearings to cause that.
When you did that, did you notice where the compression in each of those cyls was leaking to?
Don't worry, as you gain experience doing this sort of thing, you'll trust yourself more and more as time goes on.

"When you did that, did you notice where the compression in each of those cyls was leaking to?" not sure as the shop compression tested it, i wasnt there when they did it, but you saying it might just be the headgasket gives me a bit of hope, probably still would need the rings and valves and springs done too then?
