I had that problem for years. Would sometimes take 10x of turning the key on and off and then it would finally start. Are you getting a single click sound when you turn the key to try and start it? I finally got sick of trying to trace the problem and just wired in a 12v push button switch from the auto store.

remove and clean your batt cable at the battery. make sure you torque them when you re install.

Probably need to replace the battery cable that goes to the starter. More than likely the inside of the cable has been broken down due to corrosion.
