Transmission mount inspection
I'll start with the question: What do I look for in an auto transmission mount to know its faulty?
I have had zero issues with the classic thump associated with a bad transmission mount until recently. I had to suspend the engine, lower subframe to replace oil pan. I inspected the transmission mount then(ya ya should have changed in while I was in there I know) and it looked okay by a visual inspection. Put the car all back together and I get the thump at hard 1st gear acceleration from under middle of front seats. My t. mount is not cracked. Sure, I'm going to replace it anyway, but should I be looking for something else? I'm pretty sure everythings tightened...maybe I bent something? Over torqued?
Got any pics of a bad t mount?
Thanks guys

I don't have any pics. Usually they disbond from the plate - the rubber in the middle looks fine. With the weight of the transmission on them, you probably won't seen anything wrong. Lift the back of the tranny, though, and it'll separate without a whimper.

Re: Transmission mount inspection
It's one of the cheeeeepest parts of the car.
Replace it.
If the car is better, the old one was bad.
If it made no difference, then it's just that many more miles until you have to replace it again.

Re: Transmission mount inspection
Agreed. Cheap part, easy fix.
If you are curious, the way to test it is to throw a piece of wood on a jack and put the jack under the trans. Slowly lift and watch the mount. If it is good it will start to pull the car up.
