i'm attempting to press my ps pulley back on on my L98. it isn't working so well. i have the correct tool to do it, but it won't thread in the shaft and it also messed up the threads on the tool. so how do i go and press on this pulley?

Are you sure your using the right threaded rod? Unless the threads are fubar from a past repair or severe rust, it should thread in with ease. If youve stripped the threads in the shaft already, then its time for a fresh PS pump. You might be able to helicoil it if your careful, but a new pump might be easier in the long run.

If the threads are still there, but damaged, you might be able to chase them with a repair tap and clean the first few up. I dont recall what the threads are off the top of my head, but I think it was something fairly common like 3/8"-16.

 

i'm pretty certain it's the correct tool. and it does seem to look pretty rusty in there, i'm really hoping i can just repair the threads, i need this car moving tonight
