Pollution Control Missing Hose

Hey guys, on the pollution control canister, or whatever you call it, there is a hose that says "To Tank" and one that says "To Carb". The previous owner installed a Holley Carb and there is no hose coming from the "To Carb" nozzle on the pollution control, it isn't plugged it's just left open. Is this a problem? Also, what tank is To Tank talking about?

I also have a transmission question. A mechanic told me that I have a three speed transmission, when driving on the highway the car is constantly roaring at 3000 RPM and it guzzles gas. If I drive from a stop or near stop I have to shove the RPMs up to 3000 to change gears. Because of this the car is embarrassingly slow at low speeds and take off. I'm driving a sports car but I feel like I'm in everyone's way. The previous owner wanted a drag racer while I want a fast cruiser. The previous owner also installed a B&M Mega-shifter. Do I need to change to a four speed trans and if so what is recommended?

No problem if the "To Carb" line isn't hooked up. Just cap it off.

"To Tank" means to the fuel tank. There is a 1/4" line coming from the tank that goes to the canister.

Your car should have come with a TH700R-4 w/overdrive and lock-up torque converter. That can make a big difference in fuel economy.

Thanks for the reply, maybe I'll be able to find the proper trans next year. Guess I can just plug that hole with anything, maybe duct tape it over?

A Canadian 84 could have come with a TH200C.

No problem with me being in Canada. The car is actually from South Carolina.
