air pump removed

The air pump is removed and new serpintine built installed and my 89 firebird seems to have more power. My son drives it more than I do and that is what he told me. He also said it is running about 2000 rpm at 65 mph while it was a few hundred rpms lower before. The engine is a 5.0 liter auto.

Now my questions...Is this possible????
There is now an open hose going to a gaget. Should this be closed off???? Or can I get rid of the whole gaget that has hoses going to it???? What is that gaget anyway????

Re: air pump removed

I removed mine too and plugged the exhaust manifold holes.

Removed the AIR pump and all the associated plumbing too.

Even without the performance improvement it really gets rid of a lot of clutter from the engine bay.

Re: air pump removed

Removing the AIR Pump does 0...read "ZERO" for performance. All it will do is unclutter the engine bay. Running 2000 at 65 means he's got a low gear in it (2.73, 3.08 etc). I run 2500 at 65 with 3.73 gears in my 84. You might get 1hp out of it on the dyno, but I stress the "might" part.

SInce it's already done though, Make sure you plug all the holes. Once the AIR pump is taken off, you need to disconnect all the other lines and plug the holes coming from the manifold and cat otherwise you'll have exhuast all in the engine bay and that won't be good.
