Crankshaft question

Guys,

My old crankshaft had a round C-shaped stud sticking out of the mail seal end of it that slides into one of the flexplate holes. However, my new shortblock crank doesn't have this stud. Is it necessary?

Thanks!

Helps to locate and line up flexplate .
Can install the one from your old crank if required
