Rust in fuel tank - advice please!

I just got the tank dropped on my '86 v6 MPFI and this is what I see

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...1&d=1325107181

So I figure I need a new fuel pump assembly (is this called the sender?) and tank.

Questions:

1. Ac Delco fuel pump assembly?

I already have a new Ac Delco pump and strainer. Will this assembly do from Orielly if I swap out the pump? http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...aro&vi=1035560

2. New tank, or can the orginal be restored? Where to get a new/restored tank? Orielly tank here:
http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...00/GM2721B.oap

3. What should I do to the rest of the fuel system given the rust in the tank?

4. Any other input?

Re: Rust in fuel tank - advice please!

Do a quick search on the spectra tank.
I'm on my phone so I can't help.
Spectra has more problems fitting than no problems.

IIRC,
The fill neck is angled wrong, & cutting it at a certain place will help get the tank in, then you have to figure how to angle the cut piece to fit correctly, then get together.

Sure there a few, VERY few had little or no problem.

IDK about the Spectra sending unit.

JCWhitney has a selection too, look there for a sending unit. IIRC, $ stats around 140 or 150.
IDK what their brand is, sorry.

Re: Rust in fuel tank - advice please!

If the filler neck is cut and rotated out of alignment the burp tube will need to be somehow reconnected so that it can still be functional. The burp tube relieves pressure that can interrupt fueling.
If you get a tank that actually fits be careful not to stress the filler neck, doing so can cause the soldered connection at the tank to crack and allow air & moisture to enter and corrode the tank ruining tank and sender as well.
