Transmission dip stick

Fixing some prior owner screw ups and I've got a question. The transmission dip stick has a bracket on it that isn't attached to any thing. The bracket appears to be bent so I can't really tell where it attaches. The engine is in the car so it's a little hard to see back there. Any ideas/suggestions on how to secure it?

Re: Transmission dip stick

It usually bolts to the bellhousing bolt or maybe to the back of the head.

Yep. Top bell housing bolt. That was some big time fun trying to get that little job accomplished. Recommendation to anyone that may read this thread in the future. Take the dipstick out and notch the bracket. Much easier to install that way. You only have to back the bolt out a couple of turns to slide the bracket in. Oh, yeah. If you take the dipstick out, go ahead and replace the grommet in the transmission pan. It's easy to do and the grommet is easy to find at any parts store. Thanks for the info guys.
