1989 firebird emissions

I have a 1989 firebird and the emissions are sky high. I just recently got the car and just need to get the emissions down to get a sticker. Does and body have any tips on how to lower them. Any feed back would be much appreciated!!

Check for vacuum leaks. Check for trouble codes. Replace the O2 sensor.
