88 Firebird Formula bad rear end?
88 Firebird Formula bad rear end?
Hey guys i have a 88 firebird formula with a 350 and the 3.27 rear end (or 3.23 i cant remember off the top of my head)
over the past month since it was getting nice out ive done a few burnouts and everyone has said that only 1 wheel was spinning
my question is could the posi have gone bad
one thing i noticed right away on this car is the passenger rear tire from the previous owner was much lower on tread than any of the other tires
could i just not have a posi or did my rear end go out?
edit- the car also only had 80k miles on it

i was haveing a similar issue. look at the pic. unbelievable, huh? i took a buddys suggestion, he said do some slow speed figure 8s in a parking lot. this will clean up any varnish build up on the clutchpacks. i should change the fluid again, lol. but look at the difference. see if it works for you. surely cant hurt anything.

^^^ thankyou i also dont think the fluid has ever been changed in the rear end of this car
also someone was telling me there was a posi adhesive or something to add in with the rear end fluid idk if any of you have heard of that

yup, you need that fluid, posi-additive. i put some lucas brand in there a few years back. autozone carries it. it used to be a g.m. only product years ago IIRC? jack your rearend up and turn the tires, do they both roll in the same direction? there is a test to check your clutchpacks if its factory posi/limited slip. i dont remember the torque specs, but you locked one wheel with a large 1 inch ratchet/socket on a lug nut, put a big pipe on the ratchet so it cant move. then use a torque wrench on the other wheel to measure at what torque they break loose. sorry, i dont remember where i read that or id give you a link. let us know how you make out.
